Scarred
I was approached by Angie Batis, Adi Koen and Nicola Cooper to take part in a collaborative photographic series made up of woman who have survived really traumatic and sometimes life-threatening things that have happened to them and the scars that represent that time in their lives. Different illustrators were commissioned to illustrate on different portraits of women. Each woman was shot wearing their basic undergarments,
pieces that show off their scars.
I was required to draw on top of the portrait of the woman I was given, creating a unique armour. I was given Mpho. Mpho had heart surgery.
She needed surgery early on her life was too scared to have it done in a public hospital, every time she went to get a check-up it was done by
a  trainee that had no idea what was going on. She was concerned that she wouldn't be well taken care of. Years later she got a job that gave her medical aid and she managed to get the necessary surgery done before it was too late. Below was my contribution to the Scarred project
