The road E117, the only road that comes from the capital Tiblisi, follows the river Terek until Stepantsminda (სტეფანწმინდა), the last town before crossing border with Russia.
Kazbek Mountain, one of the major mountains of the Caucasus with 5,054 m (16,581 ft).
The Gergeti Trinity Church (წმინდა სამება), build in 14th Century, this church is at an elevation of 2170 m (7120 ft) under Mount Kazbek.
