Obscure: An Experimental Publication

Obscure Magazine is a one-of-a kind publication that explores the sensation surrounding “ghost typography”.  Ghost Typography is the found lettering that exists in the built environment and surrounds us everyday. It doesn’t have to be pretty or use an existing typeface, it’s just any visual representation of language.  It is unmatched in terms of intensity and variety of signage. On any given block, you can see the city’s forgotten history through the layers of still-visible signage in basically any medium.

This issue of Obscure Magazine explores the idea of capturing old typography with modern tools.  The feature article highlights Instagram and an app called Fontly to help preserve ghost typography.
The second half of the magazine is reoccuring and covers book reviews, news, and events in the typography world.  It also highlights a different typeface every issue.  This issue highlights H&FJ's font family Knockout.
