There's a Khmer proverb with meaning equivalent to "Self-praise is no recommendation" that Cambodian people generally use to remind people not to do Self-praise. "កុំអង្គុយលើចង្អេរលើកខ្លួនឯង (don't try to sit on a shallow flat basket and lift yourself up)". It is clearly impossible for a person to do this physically and it's pointless to do so. Someone else should help lifting you up as in someone else should be the ones to praise you BUT not you, yourself. It makes people cringe your audacity.
