Structural Design - One Biscayne Square
For this Structural Design Project, my team was tasked with designing the structural components of a provided structure. This meant sizing and designing the reinforcements for the structure's slabs, columns, walls, gravity beams, link beams, and foundation - all in accordance with the Florida Building Code 2020.
The sizing and design of the columns were performed using our understanding of structural analysis and load demand and with the use of Microsoft Excel.

ETABs was utilized to design the components of the structure's Lateral Force Resisting System (LFRS) and analyze the structure's global performance, P-delta effects and drift deflection.

SAFE was utilized to proportion the slab thickness/design and verify column size based on the Punching Shear Capacity ratios. 

All design calculations that were performed using software was also verified by being compared to the hand-written design calculations for each structural component. No matter how simple structural design can become through the use of advanced software, as engineers we should always know what the output results and have an idea of what the expected results are when data is being inputted. 

A report was constructed detailing the design of the building's structural components, while providing tables that display the design results and hand calculations that verify the adequacy of said design.
