ZARYADYE PARK
Moscow Tourist Centre. Moscow, 2020

In 2020 we were approached by the Moscow’s Tourist Authority with the task to develop a multimedia set-up and contents for the new Tourist Information Center located in the Dome pavilion in the very center of the Russian capital, in Zaryadye park by the Kremlin, the starting point for many tourist routes. The Dome reproduces the Russian i-city pavilion designed by well-known architects, Sergey Tchoban and Sergey Kuznetsov (SPEECH), that won a special prize at the XIII Architecture Biennale in Venice in 2012.

Dome with QR codes

The pavilion exterior serves as an LED multimedia facade, presenting thematic shows around the clock. The interior of the center hall dome is made of lightboxes with QR codes.

We had to equip the Centre with a synchronised multimedia system which provides an integral perception of information. In order to do so we have developed an application that introduces tourists to Moscow’s landmarks and points of interests and helps them to plan their routes on their own, available in Russian, English and Chinese languages. We also needed to create unique video content about the main sights and the most interesting events in Moscow and produce the pavilion's graphic design.

LED Panels

The serving information desk is located under the central hall dome. There is a radial LED screen around it and another one right above it. We shot and edited 33 videos with a total duration of over 50 minutes – the best views, iconic landmarks and out-of-the-box tips on how to spend time in the capital.

By pointing a smartphone camera to the rows of QR codes on the inner walls of the central hall tourists can learn about all the events of notice taking place in the city. The application is integrated with RussPass and DiscoverMoscow portals, thus the data is updated in real time. All the content in the database that includes over 400 objects and points of interest is multilingual and can be edited in real time by the use of the content management system, specially developed by us for the purpose.

There are 24 lightboxes, 19 monitors and 8 touch screens installed in the outer gallery, which are united by wall infographics with a total area of about 50 m². Visitors can independently find information about the attractions and activities in Moscow, which are grouped into 8 thematic blocks (theaters, museums, parks and estates, festivals, gastronomy centers, sports and children’s events), as well as to plan the most convenient routes.

The interactive prototypes and VR-environment were created during the design process allowing for better communication between the design team and client.
