The project brief is conceived as a client based calling for a design construction and technology resolution of a small hotel in the university campus in Prahran, an inner city suburb. ‘Professor Lodge’ is required to explore and design a conventional hotel by using recycling of unused shipping containers. The lodge is to serve the research in art, architecture, music, art literature, and new media etc. It will provide the wider public and constituent users with overnight stays; and a small selected group of designers and academic in art, architecture, interior design who will stay for short periods of time, such as for conferences, symposiums, seminars and small group retreat activities.
The design intention of this project is creating compact space yet comfortable, inhabitants able to fully utilize every single of the spaces. The concept is proposed to let inhabitant adapt living in shipping container hotel with the aesthetic of both natural and the design construction. Different levels of spaces somehow distinguish the zone area; plenty of curtain walls are used to bring inhabitant closer to the natural.
