The following drawings and paintings are from a portraits project that had to have a more unconventional approach and starting point. To address the brief I chose speed painting, drawing from made ceramic and paper heads and tactile drawings.
I began the project by using my own portrait and attempted to draw what I could feel instead of what I could see, the process lead to unusual mixed and jumbled images, which i really liked. I then chose to use the same mixed style with objects that referenced the identity of a portrait instead of just using the face. I worked with images from a newspaper that was sent to my captured grandfather in the war- following an initiative with English-German POW camp from both sides.
I combined the images into mixed and jumbled drawings that had the same aesthetic as the tactile studies, but used more defined images from the newspaper.
