Vizualize art on your walls with Adobe Aero

Visualize art on your walls with Adobe Aero
Have you ever struggled to figure out how to hang art or photos on your walls? It can be a challenge - a frame might be heavy; holding up multiple pieces requires a few people to help; or maybe you don't have the physical print or art yet. Augmented reality can help!

This 5 min tutorial shows how to use Adobe Aero on iPhone/iPad to visualize wall art placement on the wall of a home or office.
I Love You California by 3 Fish Studios. Hawaii by Chas Allen. Seattle by Hollenbeck.
Digitizing your physical art
Let's start by digitizing a physical print for use in Adobe Aero. I have this wonderful print by 3 Fish Studios that I want to try out on my wall.

With your iPhone or iPad, take a photo of the artwork. Leave some room around the edges, but make sure to keep the print as straight as possible in the viewfinder to avoid skewing. Next, we want to crop the image to the edges of the artwork, and save the edit. You should now have a clean digital version of the piece. If you don't already have the physical artwork you can save the file from a website.
Crop your photo to the artwork
Next we'll want to measure the artwork, and if necessary convert to centimeters for Aero.

Put the artwork on the wall
Now that we have the artwork in digital form on our device, we can use Aero to place it on a wall. If you don't have Aero on your iOS device yet, go ahead and install it from the App Store. You'll need a Creative Cloud account to login, and it's a good idea to go through the guided tour to learn the basics.
Start a new Aero scene, and scan your wall. When the wall is detected, tap anywhere to place the anchor - the center of your scene. If you have a plain white wall, Aero can have trouble identifying the surface since there's no visual information to understand what's there. In this situation you can try putting a few pieces of tape on the wall to help Aero detect the surface.

Tap the plus button to add a new asset. Browse to your artwork, and select it. Now we can simply tap anywhere on screen to place it on the wall
Size the image
Lastly, we'll want to make sure the artwork is the same size as the physical object. Tap the art to select it, then tap the Scale button from the menu at the bottom of the screen. To enter the dimensions, tap the Scale dropdown on the left, and change it to Size. In the width field, enter the width of your artwork in centimeters. The height will fill in automatically based on the proportions of your image. That's it - now you have your artwork on your wall at real size!
Reposition and capture
To explore different positions on the wall, drag and drop the artwork along the wall.  Keep in mind that if you move the art far from the anchor circle, if you re-open the scene later, the art may be positioned off the edge of the screen.
When you've placed your art where you want it, you can capture a photo or video by tapping Preview, then using the recording buttons. Go back to Edit to keep modifying your layout.
Try different combinations
You can also add more pieces of art to the same scene - simply add them the same way as the first.
If you're exploring different combinations of artwork, you can use the scene graph to show or hide things as you try out options.
