Description: The following screen was inspired by the canvas “Javaanse hoffunctionarissen”. Seems that these paintings represent the phenomenon of the cultural dialogue in a very special way. The European culture (Netherlands) comes to Asian (Java), reinterpret its traditions in a new way (traditional judge but in a typical costume), which is returned back
as a masterpiece back to Europe (Rijksmuseum). This screen, in the same way, plays around cultural dialogue: a very classic European piece of furniture, but totally Asiatique in its` print. Another source of inspiration is nudity itself:
in classic European interiors and culture, the screen played a very interesting and important role. Though it`s just a piece of furniture, you can find deeper meaning there.
Who knows, who you really are when you`re naked?
