MICKEY: Cropping a Big, Lazy Cat

We have three cats. Mickey is, by far, the biggest and smushiest. We tend to take a lot of photos of him because, while his brother and mom just sit in loaves or lay on their sides, Mickey tends to lounge in very Rubenesque positions.

Here's a series of six Mickey photos, cropped to be more interesting. My favorite is the first set. When I was in graduate school, I got the chance to go on a 3-day safari in South Africa. We saw leopards, who had recently gorged themselves, laying along tree limbs with their legs hanging down on either side. Mickey often likes to sit like this, except his belly is full of gastrointestinal-blend cat foot, and he's draped over a couch or chair. I chose to crop the photo to be tall and narrow, reminiscent of how leopards sit high in the trees. (I also wanted to lose the unnecessary and distracting lamp and tissue box.)
