I love designing logos and visual identities, but sometimes it's nice to take a break from perfect vectors and have a little bit more freedom. For me, illustrations like this usually start out as pencil sketches on a 3x5 index card—it's relaxing to spend an afternoon getting in touch with a character (in this case, Ed from Ed's Junk), and bringing them to life.

From there, I scan my sketch into my computer, bring it into Illustrator, and draw over my sketch with my Wacom tablet. I've tried a few different techniques, but I really like the simplicity of just working with the blob brush, and I think the final result is usually pretty cool. I'm definitely excited to keep exploring techniques, however, and would love to hear any tips or advice you might have for future illustrations.
