The Spectacle a bi-yearly publication by London-based spectacle maker Cubitts. This issue revolved around Perspective and includes interviews with David Shrigley, Anais Van Manen, a photoessay by Polly Hanrahan, and a handdrawn map of London’s lost rivers by The Shoreditch Sketcher.
The design of the newspaper had to be rethought after Cubitts was rebranded in 2019; that included a new typeface, brand colours, and a bolder aesthetic. You can clearly see it in the title pages that combined big, bold type along with Joy Yamusangie’s illustrations, on colourful backgrounds.
The footer was used for additional information. I found the idea of constantly repeating "The Spectacle" and "Issue 04" was, well, boring. Instead, readers could find puns, restaurant details, product details, or addresses.
