OP Art in Virtual and Physical

OP art, short for optical art, is a style of visual art that uses optical illusions. There is no doubt that OP art, born after Impressionism, is an art movement that combines art, optics, and psychology theories. The development of industry, science, and technology often promotes the development of art, such as the development of extraction of the color industry. Ultramarine blue, once valuable as gold, is now one of the most common blues and various blues appear freely in more and more artworks. The combination of multi-disciplinary methods and theories in art produces new forms or compositions, which is also one of the ways to promote art development. Many OP artists use the theory of color and light for experiments and designs, using contrasting colors like black and white, Moiré pattern, and other elements and methods to create and bring the audience a unique, or vertigo sensory experience. For instance, the best-known masters of perceptual abstraction Victor Vasarely's artwork - Neptune, Bridget Riley's Blaze, Fall, and Current, Josef Albers's Interaction of Color. I would like to experiment and design some interdisciplinary artworks during my master's period, which is one of the reasons why I choose to use this form - OP art.
This is a project I cooperated with Janel Fei (my classmate). In this project, I mainly completed the digital, 3D, and VR parts. Janel mainly completed the inspiration and creation related to sculpture.

My design narrative is The Growing.
I designed six doors. They may represent birth, elementary school, high school, university, work, marriage, etc.
We need to experience a lot to be able to grow, but even when we grow, we are still confused about life. So, in my initial design, people would go through one door after another and finally arrive in front of the final sculpture, and asking themselves: after I have gone through so many doors and bumps, will I be shocked or confused about what I experienced. What will happen in the future is still a mystery worth thinking about.
Of course, what I want to see is that people give it meaning based on their own perceptions.
AR test video (Adobe Aero is used in AR part)
Janel's inspiration comes from punctuation marks. These punctuation marks are not only easy to identify, but also represent puzzles or wonders and explorations of life.
Projection version and 3D model consistent with sculpture
Due to the COVID-19, our project exhibition was forced to cancel, so we tried using AR to show the entire project.

Thank you for watching!
