Cerberus Guitars - Moros Design

The Cerberus Guitars Moros started out as a daunting task -- re-design a classic guitar (Gibson Explorer) to a more modern metal musician. The original Explorer shape holds a very close spot to my heart as the band Metallica (James from Metallica used and still uses an Explorer guitar) is one of my most loved things on the planet.

My main goal here was to remain faithful to the original design, but make it unique and different enough to set it apart from the numerous other "Explorer" inspired designs by other guitar companies. The angles ALL needed to make sense -- questions I asked myself during the design process were "what is the intention of this line?", "what does this interact with?", "where is there room for improvement to the overall shape of the body". -- something I truly don't think **some** other guitar manufacturers gave the time of day to consider.

If you look closely, there is a beautiful symmetry and asymmetry that exists in the shape of this guitar. The upper and lower horn are parallel, the way the rear bout of the guitar tends to perfectly line up with the lower horn of the guitar as if it were on an axis, the rear bout ends in the same exact angle as the lower horn does, the upper horn and lower bout have the same curvature, the bevels on the rear bout and lower horn are also the same. The lower horn, much like how the rear bout lines up with the lower horn, lines up with the sharp edge of the headstock.

The last paragraph was probably all too confusing to read, but those are the types of things that go through my mind during the design process. Every line must mean something. No line, angle, or shape can feel "out of place". The guitar MUST make sense -- and most of all, it MUST look good. This was my first serious attempt at designing (well, re-designing) a musical instrument and I truly, truly hope people enjoy it. The next project I have on the docket is to re-design the Flying V.

We have so far successfully sold 16 of these guitars, split amongst two dealers (one in Canada, one in California) and customers.

The images you see are taken by me, with the exception of the bottom prototype photos we received from the factory. Thank you for looking!
