ACIIID: A Year in Review
A review of the year that was is both timely and essential as we look forward to the trends in design currently happening and those yet to (re)emerge. 2020 has proven to be exciting and surprising at the same time.

Throughout the past year, we have witnessed the rise of ideas including:

1. NEOTENIC DESIGN—exhibits evolutionary traits characterized by Playfulness, Creativity and Adaptability. Often reflective of the virtues of youth and childhood, neotenic traits in design tame and melt us in the way we view, experience, and appreciate the form, color, and movement of mundane objects.
2. BIOPHILIA—this phenomenon which explains our intrinsic relationship with nature and its inevitable linkage to human development and the human psyche.
3. SURREALISM—a conscious style choice, Surrealist designs are escapist-inspired creations celebrating a concoction of magic, fantasy, and imagined realities.
4. VIRTUALITY in DESIGN—alters the way we interact with our world: not only in our own little worlds in cyberspace but also, in the vast real world we all share. Virtual Design has become more than an integral part of our Digital Earth; it has become a pioneering avenue for a more experiential world.
5. PROXEMIC+PANDEMIC—the natural tendency for man to behave as he relates to another is guided by his self-concept of distancing. As a social being, the proxemic polarity towards Privacy, Seclusion and Isolation as influenced by the global pandemic situation demonstrates Sociofugality.

ACIIID invites you to reflect on and respond to these key trend concepts as showcased in 2020—allow this visual gallery to resonate with you as you reminisce.
