Back in my childhood whenever I went to my late-grandma's house I always saw her in Kebaya clothing. Seeing someone close to myself kept wearing the traditional clothing in modern days was fascinating for me. In other hand, my mother used to be a tailor who made a variant of clothing. I found both of those memories are both interesting. I made my graduation project according to that memories I recall, a book about Kebaya history in Indonesia including vintage illustration with a narative story telling of tailor's point of view from making kebaya in one city to other city.
My graduation project consist of introduction book about kebaya history in Indonesia, alongside with illustration series and narative story telling. Indonesia multicultural society has kebaya as national dress. Public knowledge of kebaya’s diversity is still low and there are still many distorted perceptions. The research is focused on the historical record and types of kebaya in Indonesia. Data collection is done through literature studies and observation to explore more about kebaya’s background. Questionnaire is also carried out on target audience to know their book design preferences. This introduction book is adjusted to the preferences of young adult obtained from the questionnaire results. I designed the book with vintage and personal concept in mind to carry through the included narative story telling. The book is to help Indonesians gain deeper knowledge of the richness of kebaya as well as books that provide a nostalgic memories.
