Its thermal springs gush copious, in the eleventh century the valley was transformed into a lake there are numerous engravings and gouaches (of XVI - XIX century) of him.
The lake was drained with a reclamation in 1870: a radial channels convey water into a central pool from which there is an underground river that flows into the sea.
Over the centuries there has been consensus among scholars in the identification of the origin of the name. According to Benedetto Di Falco, half of 500, the name of the place would have resulted from Anguignano, for the multitude of "eel", sea snakes, which is nestled among the ferns that surround the lake (from Latin anguis, "snake" ). In fact, in the work of Pietro da Eboli, the miniature illustrating the thermal spring of Agnano, called Balneum
ouroboros,
symbol of spiritual continuity and balance of the universe

symbology
uroboro = life
The uroboros is the snake that eats its own tail, representing a cycle of evolution that takes place. This symbol embodies the same time the ideas of motion, continuity, selfing and eternal return. The circular shape of the symbol has led switch to other interpretation: the union of the underworld (represented by the serpent) and the celestial world (represented by the circle). This interpretation is confirmed by the fact that the uroboros, in some representations, is half black and half white. Mean so the union of two opposing principles, heaven and earth, yin and yang Chinese, and all the values that these opposites are carriers.
