Sol Negro (Black Sun)

A reinterpretation of the original cover of the cartoonist Juan Giménez for the video game Sol Negro published by Opera Soft in 1988 for the ZX Spectrum, Amstrad, Commodore 64, MSX, Amiga, Atari ST and PC systems.
Juan Giménez, world famous Argentinean illustrator and cartoonist, died on April 2, 2020. He left us a great legacy of comic masterpieces such as La casta de los Metabarones or As de Pique, as well as great illustrations for some of the most emblematic video games of the spanish software of the late 80's.
This illustration is published in the book A tribute to Juan Giménez, where more than 70 cartoonists and illustrators pay homage to this great author. The book was funded through crowdfunding on Verkami's website in October 2020.
In the cover of the game we can see the couple that stars the game, Bully and Monica, who suffer a curse that turns the muscular Bully into a fish and the indomitable Monica into a hawk. Each full moon one of them is transformed and the other one recovers its normal form, which prevents them from being together. To break the spell, first Bully must free Monica from her cage so that, converted into a fish, they can arrive together in time to the sacred underwater temple of the sun just at the moment when an eclipse of the sun occurs... the BLACK SUN.
