To be honest, I'm not into this event for the air pollution problem, noise problem, and garbage problems. And sometimes it causes accidents.

Reunion dinner or New year's eve dinner 年夜飯 / 團圓飯

The table is in traditional Chinese style, round, big, and red.

I drew several dishes, include Abalones with bok choy, braising fish, rice, braising pork feet with green vegetables, roasted chicken, and hot pot.

總共畫了九孔，下面有青江菜，紅燒魚，要選剛上岸的海魚比較好吃，一鍋飯，紅燒豬蹄膀跟綠色蔬菜，烤雞，和一大鍋火鍋。

Yuan Xiao 元宵

There's no translation for this food it is how Chinese word pronounces.

Yuan Xiao is not glutonous rice dumpling 湯圓 even though they share similar sizes and appearances. The main difference is the process.

To make rice dumplings, we need to make rice dough first, dice, then add sweet stuffings.

On the other hand, to make Yuan Xiao requires more technique and patience. It starts with stuffing making, then it has to be wet and roll in rice powder for 60 to 70 times until the stuffing is fully and evenly covered by rice powder around 3 times bigger.

Yu Sheng 魚生

This is not a tradition in Taiwan but Singapore.

When I was making this project, my Singapore colleague shared their own unique Chinese New Year traditions with me. Yu Sheng is made by shreds of many different food. Singaporean children are responsible to mix all shreds together.

 

初七人日 The Birthday of Human or more common be known as Everybody's Day

The seventh day of Chinese New Year is the last day of animals' birthdays, which belongs to human.

According to Chinese myths, humans were created by a female god, 女媧 Nu Wua, whose appearance is described as half human and half python, from normal mud / earth.

Since there is no further describtion for her, I drew what I believe she would look like. First, no clothing because of inadequate of technology. Second, simple decorations, same reason as former one. Third, copper skin because of over exposure to sun light. ( so rational )

Lantern Festival  元宵節

Lantern Festival is the last day of Chinese New Year Spring Festival holiday, which is the 15th day of Lunar January.

Lunar Calendar follows the regularity of moon so 15th of a month is equal to the day of full moon.

元宵 yuan xiao is represent the shape of full moon.

Taiwanese light up sky lanterns which is around 2 meters tall this night and worship for family and friends.

I got to know that 元宵節 is not lantern festival in Singapore because Singaporeans do it at 中秋節 mid-Autumne Festival. So they simply name this day as "the last of Chinese New Year"
