Photography of potpourri
A collection of compositions for a final artwork that visualises Shakespeare's Sonnet 19 (all SOOC).

I chose potpourri as my subject because it is the beauty of nature but captured in a static state of life. Floral and natural materials that are full of life and colour whilst living have been dried and are essentially dead, as they no longer change, but this in itself provides it's own beauty and was the perfect solution to visualise the themes of the sonnet. Shakespeare talks of preserving beauty and cheating death, and through potpourri I could channel these ideas and still represent the beauty described through his words.
 Final Image Development
After taking the photos I decided to combine two of them to produce the final image. I then played around with the colours and hues in Photoshop and chose one line of the sonnet to feature as the text in the design.

Although eventually printed on acetate and intended as a standalone, displayed artwork, these designs could work as postcards or other ephemeral materials. This would relate to the themes of beauty, decay, time and death that feature in the sonnet and would communicate these ideas to the recipient of the material.
