CITY PATTERNS

Each city has its character. When we first time come to the city, we get to know it, as if we meet a person. It tells us something in its language and shows its life. Some cities greets us with open arms, some cities are cold and stern. And each of us has a special impression, "a portrait of the city" after some time that was spent in it.

I designed patterns inspired by cities that I like and collection of clothes "City Patterns" with them and mila_foryou, talented seamstress, make them real.

All my patterns were printed in St. Petersburg in Kunjit studio

In this collection I tried to express my impressions of the cities that I like, not only in patterns but also in the choice of fabric and clothing models.

In Rouen, every stone on the pavement, every chip on the wall can tell an amazing story dating back to the Middle Ages. The architecture of Rouen, because of the openwork mesh of half-timbered houses and lace of Gothic churches, is light and graceful.

I tried to make a pattern that matches this impression, as well as choose the appropriate fabric and style of the dress. Crepe de Chine has a matte rough structure, while it is very delicate and easily draped, and the dress has a graceful, feminine silhouette, which, in my opinion, is very consistent with the character of Rouen.

Rotterdam amazes with the abundance of skyscrapers, the ideal geometry of modern architecture. But at the same time, it retains human warmth in a bizarre drawing of sculptures and small ships on the embankments, an outlandish shape of benches and fluffy greenery park lawns.

I made a print from some of Rotterdam's most iconic buildings, combined with the recognizable bright red ship and lighthouse. I chose Sparta fabric - a two-layer knitted fabric with a perfectly smooth outer surface and soft pile inside, and for a dress - a simple, strickt silhouette, which, in my opinion, best emphasizes the character of Rotterdam.

Venice is a city of love and celebration. The whole city  is like a work of art. To convey the impression of it, I created a colorful pattern, like the city itself.
I chose the model of the dress associated with the Renaissance time and  silk for it.
The delicate flowing texture of silk, like the water of Venetian canals, keeps summer and sun warmth in its highlights.

Petersburg is like an old school textbook with a new beautiful cover.Outside, you can see wonderful decor, gilding and bizarre forms of turrets on houses, but it is worth going through the arch, and you will see frayed, torn pages with numerous marks and drawings in the margins from the former owners - wells courtyards without greenery and sunlight, abandoned buildings with boarded up windows, graffiti on the walls in several layers, right on the mold and peeling plaster. This is the real city, the one in which people live. It has its own special charm and beauty, which I decided to convey in the print.

I choosed T-shirt for it because most often people in St. Petersburg wear comfortable clothes, rather than ball gowns and formal suits)
