Krakowski Kazimierz - Logo and Branding

Kazimierz, Kraków
- Visual Identity for Kazimierz district

Kazimierz is one of the districts of the Kraków city. When designing a logo and brand for Kazimierz, I was focusing on the "soul" of the place I am designing for. Kazimierz is the old part of the city, almost not changed at all since the prewar times. The buildings and streets' location are almost exactly the same as it was tens of years ago. I aimed to find something central, common and known for everybody. First place that came to my mind was Plac Nowy, the central square, which is definitely the heart of Kazimierz. It's in the center and connects many known and common streets. It's always full of people coming for the street food or just passing by. It's a lively and crowded place which didn't loose its character even during coronavirus pandemic while every other place in Kazimierz became empty. I decided to use the shape of Plac Nowy in a logo as a symbol and heart of Kazimierz.
I used a colour palette that is aligned with the autumn colours of Kazimierz. I was inspired by the photograph I took in the Schindler's List Passage. Oranges, reds, shades of grey and black seemed to be most significant and matching for the Kazimierz logo. I also used the font that reflects the old and historic character of this part of Kraków. The general look and feel of the branding relates both to the old and historic character of Kazimierz, but also to a modern Kazimierz - full of art galleries, restaurants, bars, music clubs, beautiful murals, art and music festivals and other events that take place there.
