"WINTER FINDINGS"

This is a continuation of Kitchen Findings.

After a very busy and also very strange Year where I barely had time to do spare time work I took the chance when a small time-window opened around Christmas create an artwork. Again inspired by hyperrealist painters such Jason De Graaf or Pedro Campos..

It all started out as a test of the new Octane 2020.2 Nested Dielectrics capabilities. This new feature realistically calculates the right light behaviour of touching transparent surfaces such as an ice cube in water. This system is based on priorities. So there would be no water where the ice cube penetrantes the liquid if the ice cube has higher priority over the water.
In a more nerdy way: Nested Dielectrics calculate the boundary condition of the interface between intersecting specular objects based on a priority system.

But the "testing" turned more and more into a spare time project. So I decided to make it an artwork after a couple of hours of testing.

So depside Kitchen Findings, that was centered around what can be found near a kitchen all year, Winter Findings is (of course) focussed on what you can find around a household during the Christmas holidays.

In the usual manner I assembled all objects / material with great care and went through the process of creating this artwork making sure every single object looks best to my abilities.
Because of the vast rendering resources I have I could increase the Specular Bounce Depth to 64 and Diffuse as well as Scattering Depth to 32. This increased the realism of the refractions as well as the dynamic look of the SSS objects by quite a bit.
