POLICY N' PRACTICE

Policy N' Practice

How did racist governmental policies shape the current situation of Black wealth?
Jim Crow and Segregation might be the obvious answers to the current social and economic disparities between whites and blacks in the United States, but the issue of racist policy becoming racist practice is more nuanced and complicated than that. In “Policy & Practice”, NPR will invite historians, economists, and other experts to analyze and discuss the role of racism in deliberate political campaigns to hinder the economic development of black communities and individuals.

I took inspiration from urban planning maps that showcase the practice of redlining, which was used to demarcate areas considered as "financial risk", and unfairly targeted mostly Black neighborhoods, which hindered the development of the families living in those areas.
