AS4 MON ONCLE - UNINHABITED ARCHITECTURE SPACE

Mon Oncle
A film in 1958 directed by Jacques Tati. This comedy highlights the contrast in rich and poor lives from a same area.
This scene is selected as the most iconic as it highlights  the disconnection between human and architecture space

Fig. The iconic image that highlights the theme of uninhabited architecture space
Fig, Post-processed perspective drawing made by Lyna Nguyen to emphasize the theme
What is more emphasized in this image compared to the original one ?
1. The absence of human that is shows by setting low opacity , which  highlights the theme of uninhabited architecture
2. The highlight of cold color from materials and object
3. When natural elements are no longer the focus in architecture.
Fig. Axonometric  that shows  extra background contents, which enriches the meaning of this scene.

Floor plan gives a more thorough understanding of how the view is framed
fig. The use of lighting and rule of third in the scene
I look at the rule of third and the use of lighting in the frame, As clearly as one can see, the only humans in this room are lefted out of center, the dominant of this frame is the dinning set. and when we look at the use of light, we sees that the housewife and her guest are lefted in shadow and the boy who's sitting outside, does exist in the zone where the light shine but he remains as a merely existence in the frame, he sit alone and far away from the camera , so even though, he's not in shadow as his mom, he appears as a background object. So what's interesting in this frame is the swap in position between objects and human, when we talk about architecture space, we immediately think about how one person would interact with the space and should be the dominence, but Jacques Tati changes it, in his space, architecture is not inhabited by humanbut instead being the background so that the focus is in objects
fig. The use of colour direct eyes, while natural colour takes less space than grey colour, which represent objects

When I analyse the frame, I look at how Jacques Tati  guides audience eyes through the use of contrast color. Hot colour such as red and green is where catches audience eyes at first and then it goes directly from the red chair to the boy who's wearing the white shirt outside of the house. The amount of contrast within this space shows that there is a significant attention to the symbolic meaning of colour in a scene, because with the same tone colour, the red chair is separated from other objects, which are all in cold colour such as the grey wall and black table, this change in colour shows that the red chair and green bench are now considered to be in the same category as human.
3.I then look at the blocking of this scene to see how people actually move in this architecture space, first I notice that the camera is positioned behind the stair, so people is actually framed by the object of this house, plus the way even though they move, the two ladies are still left in the corner of the frame, they're behind the object and not in the center of the frame, is very effective way to creates an illusion that this architecture space does not belongs to these character, it also create a sense of alienation a human can feel within the space
The  frame  can be viewed from multiple perspective, so that I can see how people communicate with these  object in the room and it shows a very interesting fact is that when these people in the house, they don't interact with the objects in this living space, the only time they sit on the chair is when they're outside of the house, these people don't use the indoor space as it's supposed to be, this is once again raise a question that whether or not, this architecture space is meant to be used by human or is that just a place of transit and human has to negotiate with the space and objects in the house.
Human is isolated in natural environment
These images are to shown how a contrast architecture space would be like in compared to the iconic image with warm tone colour, the connection between people in a community and the interaction between objects and people. Also, people in this poor community enjoy their life outdoor and in nature more than how the rich family is usually shown having the most of their time spent indoor ,
For an additional  analysis, it shows that unordered life that poor people have enhance  connection in their community when there is a sense of isolation and distance in the rich community
