Bacon Motion Infographic

College Project.
Final Project for Motion Graphic Design.
Approx. time given: 8 weeks. (May - Aug '13)

We were required to create a (1 - 1.5 minutes) info-motion graphic about an issue that we feel strongly about. The information or facts can be locally or nationally focused, but we are advised to keep things REALLY interesting!

I chose bacon as my topic because, well, I love bacon! It's as simple as that. You can watch the video below to see the final result, but if you want to understand it in-depth, together with my thought process, I broke down the information in each screenshot and applied it in the captions.

I started off with 'The Bacon Shack' because my initial plan was to go into the diner and start experiencing everything as the inside of the restaurant, probably a waiter asking for your order whilst prattling about the facts of bacon while you look at the images off the menus. The idea didn't come to fruition but I kept the opening because it fitted as a good introduction, instead of jumping into the title straightaway.
Title introduction. Bacon is cured, smoked pork. Delicious goodness. Mmmm.
Surprisingly, bacon originated in China, where the Chinese began salting pork bellies as early as 1500 B.C. It's more populari in America now, though. Huh. Anyway, the animation here is supposed to show the phrase 'digging your way to China', hence going through the Earth's crater and the Chinaman being upside down at first.
Different places around the world use different cuts of the pig to make bacon.
Here are the different cuts of bacon you can make with the parts of the pig!
Talk about being versatile, you can cook bacon in so many ways (and it would still taste as delicious as ever)!
Bacon has that special flavor because it possesses 6 different types of umami, which is a savory taste.
43% of people prefer bacon to sex. Yep. They'd rather choose bacon over sex.
23% of men ranked bacon as their favourite fragrance. Personally, I didn't even know that they sold perfumed bacon. Imagine smelling bacon the whole day; I think i'd be salivating the entire time.
23% wonders: 'Does my partner love bacon more than me?'. The power of bacon.
I did NOT make those statistics up, seriously. Google it. I dare you to.

I used a flat, 2D artstyle so that I could emulate a retro, vintage feeling, kind of like the Midwest. I tried out quite a number of ways to animate this motion graphic so that I could learn as many things as possible. After all, it IS my first one.
