Local media company Vietcetera created the Vietnam Restaurant & Bar Awards to recognize establishments that are raising the bar in the food and beverage scene in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Rice was nominated to design the physical award—to be given to the winners. Initially inspired by the colloquial name of the annual event the "Bánh Mì Awards" we began abstracting the iconic Vietnamese bread until the form appeared as a plate, a grain of rice or, indeed, a bánh mì. The entire award is solid brass—the front 'plate' is polished to a mirror—the rest left to patina. The awards were crafted by local black smith, Sébastien Sicot.
