Beauty in the Ordinary

Beauty in the ordinary
Beauty in the Ordinary was an online photography contest which came about during the Coronavirus lockdown as a way to creatively engage those from newcomer and refugee backgrounds. Run by COLOURS of Edinburgh — a platform which shares stories of newcomers and refugees through art — the brief asked people to capture what beauty meant to them in isolation, this could be a daily ritual like praying or cooking dinner, an object of meaning, or a favourite space or time of the day. The creative concept for the photography contest was also inspired by things around the home. Letters cutout from cardboard waste were used for the logo. Group members from COLOURS took photos of what they found beautiful in their own surroundings and they formed part of the marketing for the competition on social media and the website.
