Disk with Dragons - AMC Art Hunt Challenge
I recently decided to participate at the AMC Art Hunt Challenge. This is the first challenge I ever participated in, and I'm very happy that I did. The idea behind this challenge was to choose our favourite open access art piece and recreate it in 3D, as a means of making it available thorugh time and space to all public, acting as a "bridge between generations of artists".
Additional information
"Disk with Dragons" is a decorative piece created out of ivory and wood by an unknown author during the Late Yuan or early Ming dynasty. I chose this artwork because I have a high appreciation for fantasy and mythology themed art, with curved organic shapes and an "out of this world" feeling. As an additional note, I've had a lot of enthusiasm towards dragons since I was a small kid. For me, dragons are the representation of strength and freedom. This is still a concept that I am looking up to, since from a small age the only thing that I really cared about in life was to be as happy and as free as possible.
The Chinese dragon is a spiritual and cultural symbol that represents prosperity and good luck, as well as a rain deity that fosters harmony. As far as my observation of this artwork goes, I believe that the author meant to portray "The Four Dragon Kings", rulers of the dragons and the four seas. "The Azure Dragon" also has his own constellation, which is considered to be the primary of the four celestial guardians.
