The Importance of Breathing

THE IMPORTANCE OF BREATHING IN STRESSFUL SITUATIONS
This research project with the ED room aims to creates a visually calming environment for the patient and their families that stimulates a shift from negative emotions to positive consciousness with the help of mindful meditation.

When in an ED Room, the patients and their families want to go home as soon as possible as the entire environment stresses them out which is filled with anxiety and negative thoughts.

Below are our initial sketches that were done to get the project started!

Being born and raised in the coastal city of Mumbai, India, both Apoorva and Juhi have memories of spending leisure time at the beach as a break from their mundane lives.

Therefore, our designs are inspired by the waves and playful movements of water that may induce calmness in the stressful ED environment.

It comprises 4 scenes that take the viewer through an immersive experience of diving or snorkelling while focusing on consistent and deep breathing with the help of prompts integrated in the visual environment.

After selecting the final versions, we created vector illustrations of each
While moving to animating each scene, we had to keep in mind that these animations would be displayed in an ED Room for adults and every movement of an element in the scene should be as natural as possible. Getting the movements right along with colour combinations and compositions, took us a long time then we could imagine.

Below attached are some of the initial animations done. There are more than just one but you guys would have a good idea of where we started from..
After several trials and errors, I am so glad to present the final version to you guys who are watching it and we cannot be more happy with how it turned out!
This video would be played on a large screen in an ED Room for the patients and their families. The breathing prompts would help them initially to get in the flow but after that, the animation alone would drive their breathing technique.

The movements of every particular object in every animation is made to calm the patients down without making them feel uncomfortable or nervous about anything. Every animation repeats itself after one breathing cycle and that's what would help them in breathing.

The music that is chosen is calm and meditational along with slight sounds of the waves and bubbles. We have added the music to enhance the overall experience of the patients and their families waiting in an ED Room.
THANK YOU!
