We, Dada: A Manifesto In Two Parts

The Task
For this project I was challenged with effectively utilizing negative space, alignment, scale, and placement to create a cohesive multi-page document for two sets of texts. The document, in effect, should communicate the message brought forth by the texts, experiment with type as image through the use of scale and color, and contains spreads which feel as though they operate as a unit.

The Text
An excerpt from "Dada Manifesto" (1918) and Tristian Tzara's "Monsiuer Antpyrine’s Manifesto."

The Design Process
In utilizing concepts and lessons we’ve learned throughout the semester, I strived to activate negative space without filling up my pages as well as utilizing scale and the same graphic elements in different ways to unite all of the spreads. I wanted my spreads to have a certain dynamism and movement that would add that visual interest which captivates the viewer. With all of this in mind, I wanted “We, Dada: A Manifesto In Two Parts” to capture the spirit of the DADA Movement and the somewhat bizarre nature of the text we worked with for this project.
