Fitnesse Granola Packaging

For this project, we were tasked to improve the user experience by repackaging a product that we use in our morning routine. The product that I chose was the Fitnesse Granola by Nestle because it is something that I look forward to everyday when I wake up.
Design Process

One of the problems that I faced when I was using the existing packaging was that I could not see how much of the product I was left with and had to gauge it based on the weird leftover shape. The existing packaging was also not stable enough to stand on its own.

To solve these problems, I made it such that there is a die-cut with a transparent film at the bottom so that I will know whenever I am running out of granola. I also changed the packaging type from a ziplock bag to a paper tube so that it would be more stable. I also chose the paper tube because it is much more environmentally friendly as compared to a plastic ziplock bag. Consumers could also keep the paper tube once they are done with it to store their items.
I also had problems when pouring the granola out of the existing packaging as the tiny granola pieces would get stuck in between the ridges of the ziplock closing. Not only that, a suggestion portion was also included on the packaging but the only way one could measure accurately was by using a measuring spoon, which would meant an extra item to wash and it would not be ideal for most people especially in the morning.

As such, the paper tube would help solve these other two problems. It would be easier for users to pour their granola out of the tube without any of the tiny bits of goodness left stuck in the ridges as there are no ridges in the tube. The cap of the tube also functions as a measuring cup as well, allowing users to measure out the suggested portion easily with the line indicated in it.
