sound performance the morgue moving resonances

Site specific sound installation based on the acoustic of the space "the Morgue" in Chlesea College of Art.

The first part of the design on the installation consisted in the research of the resonant frequencies of the Morgue space through the use of a tone generator software, one speaker and the "sound visualizer light".
Those frequencies had been found trying many frequencies one after another; when the resonant frequency was played in some areas of the morgue the volume increased and the light was brighter, also the objects in that area started to buzz. (in the third image above the resonant frequency is 175Hz.)

Every resonant frequency resonates in a different area, creating resonant areas where the volume is higher.

The central idea of the sound performance is that playing a defined series of resonance frequencies one after another allow me to move the resonance area inside the space following a defined path. For example playing the frequencies of 166, 195, 189, 235, 200, 196, 147 Hz in this precise order will create a movement of the resonant area from one side of the morgue to the other.

The movements of the resonance areas in the space are decided by the order in wich the sounds are played

The sound moves in the space around the people. It is difficult to understand where the sound source is positioned and the impression is that different speakers are used. The people are free to move around and experience how the sound change depending on the position they have in the space.
During the MA Final Show and intro to the performance with the voice of Nabil Audie Mohammed explain briefly to the listeners what the project is about.
