"La primavera" city

INTRODUCTION:
This project began with the speculation of a future life connected with nature, in which it is possible to live in communities inside an equipped and easily-accessible city, while at the same time offering the benefits that nature brings to people’s lives, such as cleaner air, better quality of life and stress reduction, among many others.

The space we choose is located in Santa Ana Tepatitlan. It is a deforested land, without electrical installations and lacking a sewer system, where the current plan is to build horizontal residences en masse. It is also located in close proximity (and actually used to be a part of) “La Primavera” Forest, a local landmark and protected natural area, so naturally it is a great starting point to give back to the forest and re-forestate the city. One of the main reasons why we view this as a good place in which to apply our proposal for a connection-based utopian forest-city, to demonstrate that a self-sustaining vertical city that works alongside nature can be a better option than a horizontal approach that continues to further deforestate.

Our long-term goal in this utopian future would be to become a pilot city- an example for emerging cities around the world. We believe that if urbanists and architects worldwide take the values and strategies we are proposing for “La Primavera” City and apply them in their designs we can aim to create a more sustainable and benefiting way of life for the human race and for our planet. Another important design concept in this project is connection. We believe that after COVID-19 people yearn connection above anything else; we learned to value nature, public space and the interaction with both people and nature, which is why throughout the project we implemented strategies to promote connection and interaction between the city and the nature, humans and nature, and humans with other humans. The third and final key aspect of our plans is approaching design with flexibility to promote the personalization of all spaces and let the city be as organic as the forest. This way, it keeps growing according to its own needs and what its inhabitants require.

As you can see in further detail in the files, plans and diagrams created throughout this four-month assignment, we plan to achieve these goals  in “La Primavera City through our grid-based urban master plan and five vertical cities placed strategically throughout the city. These vertical cities include all the spaces that are part of a normal city (city center, public plaza, retail space, housing space, school, hospital..). All this flexibility and design is created on the basis of  modules that can be completely customized to fit individual needs as well as groups needs (public areas). The cities connect with each other by cable cars that promote travel between cities. As you explore the project and get to know the city, you will notice we also created a trolley car system to connect key points in the urban setting (such as wind farms, ecotourism sites and food farms).
