ArcNews Briefly Noted

Banner illustration for ArcNews Briefly Noted section. The main color is blue as most of the topics are technology-related. The red color and curved lines were used to bring some soft touch. Yellow makes super high contrast on top of blue which could be interesting visually. But too much yellow might create a focal point that attracts too much users' attention in this illustration. So the yellow elements were made much smaller compared with their neighbors to balance the weight. Lastly, a variety of map textures in different shades were adopted to add meanings and add visual interests.

ArcNews archived articles

Banner illustration I created for numerous archived articles from thought leaders. Most of the graphics are flat with a similar scale to balance the weight. It is trying not to create a focal point to express the randomness of the article topics. M.C. Escher style graphics were used to connect those various elements. I used different shades of blue as the dominant color; on top of that, pink and yellow were introduced to break the space and to create visual interest. Here is the webpage link.

ArcNews science articles

This illustration is made for Esri chief scientist's ArcNews column (ArcNews link). It is trying to show the wide range of the science related topics. The center parts are related to ocean science, solid earth science, and geographical science. The lines around the volcano are trying to represent sustainability and data science. The icons were used to show subjects related to social science and other sciences. 3D Modeling and texturing were used in Cinema 4D. Fine tuned in Illustrator and Photoshop.

BIM and GIS

Illustration created for BIM (Building Information Modeling). It is trying to show several layers of infrastructures both on top of and under ground.

3D Fire Hydrant

I created this 3D model in Cinema 4D then installed the .glb file in ArcGIS Pro. It was used to test how ArcGIS Pro's real time rendering engine is handling 3D symbols with high polygon counts. The same model was rendered in Cinema 4D as well to test textures and lighting.
