Berlin Digital Collage / Fall 2018

The summer I spent in Berlin made me all the more interested in exploring mental health, with intersections of my experience, state of mind, and geographical location. Aside from the political messages in Guy Debord’s writings from the Situationist International, these concepts become similar to his notion of psychogeography, or the effects of our surroundings on our emotions and behavior. When tasked with a digital collage for ART 1531, I immediately decided this would be the project’s theme. More sub-themes developed out of this, including loneliness, isolation and removal; messiness, procrastination, and other detrimental habits; “dark” thoughts, places, and feelings; good things going bad; and a semi-surreal, dream-like aesthetic. All photos used were taken solely by me during my time in Berlin to keep the content authentic to my experiences.
