Playtime: Toddler and Father Paintings

“Playtime”
Exploring the world through color and form :  Collaborative paintings from a 28 year-old father and his 2 year-old daughter.

These will be on display at Joeyg's Nightclub March 1st - 31st

The Paintings
Everyone has his or her own reasons for making art, and my reason is to have fun. I don’t want to take it too seriously because it’s for myself. I enjoy the process of creating. I enjoy watching a big red streak of paint drip down. I enjoy turning the painting sideways to see if it resembles a shark. I wanted to share these activities with my daughter. What could be more fun than painting with toddler? She is a clean slate, nothing holding her back; she just wants to have fun.

We created these paintings together. Some of them are 90% Maggie with just a couple lines added from me. Most, though, were about 50/50 or 60/40 with Maggie doing the majority of the painting. Usually I would let her start painting and experimenting and then I would join in and mimic what she was already doing. Sometimes I would try to push her to try different techniques or ask her what colors should go where or what we should mix.

Some of these paintings were completed before Maggie was 2 years old, but most were done in the time since last summer when she was a little over 2.

Here is the Newspaper article about the show.
