“Metropolitan Corridor”

The city of Quito is unique in the world, located in the Equator, at an altitude of ten thousand feet, surrounded by mountains in the Andean range and more than fifteen active volcanoes. It is because of its complex synergy of urbanity and nature that makes this city so special but also one of the main reasons that it faces many planning challenges.

This project won for its solution in rethinking the relationship of the city with the natural ravines that are part of Quito´s urban form. The city is currently undertaking the construction of its first metro line which connects the Northern part of the city to the South in a linear connection.

One of the main solutions was to rescue the abandoned natural ravines that converge throughout the city, transforming them in points of transversal connections as bicycle and pedestrian walk ways, saving the biodiversity of native plants and animals, and transforming them in green public spaces.
