Hazal Land: Tales from Syria to Turkey (Children's Book)
I met Hazal when she visited my uncle's store on her way to the community kitchen, where she and her family ate all their meals. Hazal and her family are from Syria and relocated to Turkey due to the civil war. Hazal is an 11-year-old girl who, despite having faced difficult circumstances, still has a passion for writing, and drawing. And she loves animals! She uses her stories and illustrations to create her utopian world.
I adapted the stories written by her into a children's book and used her own drawings as a basis for the illustrations. This was a gift for her and my initial intention was to publish and sell it, with all proceeds going to her family. However, I was not successful in that endeavor, so I decided to share some samples from the book with you all...
