Local Internship/Packaging Design

The whole idea of this training was to figure out my true identity, because a designer with no identity is just someone normal with mainstream designs. But it’s one’s identity that makes a designer special than others. I got to a point to believe that it is a must to have my own true style and way of designing, other than that I would be just copy pasting.
We’ve had more than one theme at first. We picked three different ideas which were chaos, eco-friendly and what we called “ the lady” but my instructor chose one of them to work on intensively. I didn’t know why she focused on it more than the others. In this specific theme she asked me to imagine a woman with all her details, so sketches, prototypes, mood boards.. everything was figured out about this lady. I got confused to be honest, like why focus on this lady specifically..? After all these details and sketches I started realizing that I’m creating a lady similar to me and my personality without even realizing it. Back then I thought I was working in the wrong direction but I continued anyway while trying to change some things in this lady to not match my own self.

My instructor told me at the end of the project that this was actually the whole point of the designer training that I was supposed to figure out myself and my identity by creating this lady and making her the concept of my design. And so I can use this identity in my designs in the future and have my own touch in every design I create.
