Poetry On The Rapid
This project is a collection of broadsides feature excerpts of poems written on the theme of water. The designs were commissioned by Grand Valley State University (GVSU) as part of its Making Waves About Water initiative. The goal of the Initiative is to explore and investigate the many ways that water touches our lives, from being a life-force to defining GVSU in relation to the Grand River and Lake Michigan.
The name of the project stems from its exhibition venue. The 7 pieces were displayed in the Grand Rapids Public Transit System, called The Rapid. Roughly 700,000 people ride Grand Rapids' Public Transit every month. The poems took the place were displayed where usually one can see advertisements or Public Service Announcements.
