Experimenting with adding texture to the pine project boards. I liked this pattern from sketching but didn't translate the same with light hitting the lines differently.
I settled on a "random" lined pattern applied by an angle grinder cutting wheel as I think heavier lines will age well with the inevitable scratches the soft pine will receive throughout its life. I think a CNC could also achieve this 'random nature' look by micro adjusting the Z axis. The lines themselves remain reasonable 'Spline Like'.
A Mock-up of the cupboard configuration. Behind the black panel all the cords will be stored and easily accessed through the right hand side which does not have a panel. The left hand side will remain open to be used for miscilanious items. This has helped the small loungeroom space feel less enclosed by leaving an opening. The legs are made from HR 5mm Flat Bar. The fabrication process was easier with a heavy square vice.
A last minute addition, my logo inlayed into the top. Insights... do not use round extrusion as the wood fibres cant really grab onto it. Chisel worked ok.
Not too shabby for a second attempt at inlaying
2 coats of Black Japan stain after glue-up. I can now see the details and processes I need to refine. However, I will keep those revisions and lessons for my next design prototype.
Boilded Linseed Oil and an old shirt. Thinking about mixing in some Mineral Spirits next time butso far have been happy with this on its own.
Legs Painted and attached, All dried and ready to go to its new home.
