In early May, 2020, I found myself stuck in Michigan living in my parents house. After having international travel and work plans canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I was staring a long summer of depression in the face.

Determined to make the most of the situation, I started building a canoe with plans from Ashes Stillwater Boats.
It's been a massive project. I estimate that I've spent upwards of 500 hours on it so far, which is more than I expected. Regardless, the project fulfilled its purpose: giving me plenty to do. Throughout the duration of the build I listened to the entirety of Moby Dick on audio, as well as A Tale of Two Cities, parts of other books, many podcast episodes, and a whole lot of music.

This is something I will likely never do again, but having such a beautiful object take form under your hands is a wonderful feeling.

The pandemic is not something I wanted or enjoyed, but I am thankful to be able to continue building and learning through these times.

Enjoy the photos.
