Sister Settings: Branding

For this project I developed a brand and logo design for the event Sister Settings. Sister Settings is a student art exhibit, located at Anne Arundel Community College and inspired by Judy Chicago’s ‘The Dinner Party’. Twelve different place settings are created by the college students and displayed to honor famous women in history.
I created a poster design for the event. The front side includes information about the exhibit and the back side includes details about each individual place setting displayed; plate design, female represented and student group names.

My goal was to create a design that would communicate the concept behind the event. The colors chosen for the logo and poster are taken from the sister setting color palette, the same colors used on some of the place settings. I used a decorative typeface paired with a serif typeface to add personality and give off a sense of female presence.

The logo is based on the idea of having a chalice in the center, and having two females looking at each other, created by a figure ground illusion. I decided to make the logo circular with having pointed oval shapes going around. The goal was to create something that represented both women's history and the concept behind the event.
