I want to present You my diploma work for bachelor degree from July,2013. The topic is dedicated to one of the brightest Bulgarian literature works - Istoriya Slavyanobolgarskaya (Slavonic-Bulgarian History).
Istoriya Slavyanobolgarskaya is a book by Bulgarian scholar and clergyman Saint Paisius of Hilendar. Written in 1762, it is considered Saint Paisius of Hilendar's greatest work and one of the most influential pieces of the Bulgarian revival, as well as the first work of Bulgarian historiography. Paisius' motivation to write this piece of literature was to ensure that a "nation with a glorious past has the right to a splendid future".
The importance of this manuscript is that it was able to restore national pride to a country, which after 366 years of Ottoman rule was lacking in such passion. What would follow is known as the Bulgarian National Revival, in which Istoriya Slavyanobolgarskaya played a significant role.

The main task that I faced was to build up two books based on the three last known Bulgarian alphabets - The Alphabet of Pliska, Glagolictsa and Cyrillic. The all three of them were based over some calligraphy texts wich i used to build up some typographic relations. The other challenge was to create layout and illustrations wich are reffering to the manuscripts and miniatures of the time that the story is based on. The fun part was to present them in more interesting and symbolic way, making the book more compelling for the young and elder audience at once.
This is just a beggining of a major project. I faced a lot of inspiring subjects along the way and I hopefully will face soon. There is a lot to work over the typography side of things. This is just a scratch of the possibilities that this alphabets can give. Thats one of the reasons that I choosed them. They give you fresh look and upfront you with things that you can't see in the commen world of typography. Great way to learn.
