Burmese history is written in the Secretariat.

The project is part of the historic revival of a storied building with a mixed concept space called DOE KHIT (meaning OUR TIME in Burmese).

The dynamic wordmark took inspiration from the iconic shape of the Secretariat and the space within it that DOE KHIT resides.

Bespoke font draws from Burmese script and arches found in the colonial buildings, exemplified by the Secretariat.

Wordmark family can be adapted to different contexts while retaining its single-minded reference to the Secretariat and Doe Khit space.

We designed modules inspired by Burma's iconic rattan balls, and the idea of weaving history, culture, and the future into the space.

The project faced numerous challenges after our designs were approved in late 2019, namely disagreements with the client over fabric and furniture direction, and lack of production oversight because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Below are the raw stainless steel frames of the modules (without our proposed fabric) and different furnitures curated by the client's creative team.
