Omnipoint was the first SMS text messaging service launched in United States. Our team made history and won several product of the year awards. The design language established was the precursor to Twitter and check-in applications such as FourSquare. My project had two main components: 1) the industrial design of US version of the Bosch worldphone - the first to work in every single GSM country; 2) the design of a user experience for texting, as a replacement for direct dial phone calls for global travelers with little English proficiency. The process of composing and reading messages needed to rival the ease of IM (instant messaging), yet communicate geographic information.
