Zebrawood Engagement Ring Box

When I began designing this engagement ring box I knew that I wanted to create a piece that would be kept by the owner as a cherished keepsake.  By choosing luxurious materials such as oiled zebrawood and velvet, this piece will age and wear beautifully with time. Carefully enclosed within the wood are rare-earth magnets that keep the two halves securely together.

Note: Thank you to everyone who is interested in me making this piece for you! I love creating an object that is involved in some of people's happiest moments! Unfortunately, after making a bunch of these i've developed a severe allergy to zebrawood so I can no longer build out this specific design. I am still making this style of engagement ring box, but with different woods that have equally beautiful grain patterns to the original. Please let me know if you have any questions.

This design turned out being one of the best learning experiences i've had in terms of woodworking.

Figuring out how to take one block of wood and plan my cuts to create the desired grain pattern was definitely a challenge, but the end result was worth the work.
