When the Sun Sleeps

A Work in Progress.

When the Sun Sleeps is a photographic exploration of the small coastal city of Warrnambool, Australia and the stories found within its social and environmental landscape. Warrnambool is built on tourism and away from the peak of summer, it’s coast can be an isolating place to live. Growing up in the area has its ups and downs, as a teenager I couldn’t wait to get out. But after moving away, I find myself being drawn back there. I’ve began to appreciate the miserable weather, the empty shops, the same faces and the comfortable, quiet life. For most of us, connection to place is vital to our sense of identity. Sometimes, we fail to acknowledge that our physical  environment and the areas we choose to inhabit, are what help make us who we are.
